For the Tahitian OteŽa Da Kine will use the authentic 'to'ere' drums
as well as a bass-drum. In these dances you will hear the original Tahitian drums
which will determin the pace of the exciting dances.
In this picture you see Da Kine performing in a drum session, in which three 'to'ere'
drums, a bass drum and a big 'pahu' drum are used. De to'ere is a horizontal split gong wooden drum
which is made out of Polynesian hardwood. It is played with hard wooden drumsticks.
Because of its shape the Pahu drum will give a low bass-sound.
The cheerful Tahitian 'Aparima' feature the guitar, the bass-drum and ukulele which have become important since their introduction by European settlers. |
